Lucky Daye's "Painted"

New R&B singer and songwriter David Debrandon Brown, famously known as Lucky Daye, combines two of his pre-released EP’s with three additional songs: Call, Floods, and Try Your Fire, on his new album “Painted.” Signed to the RCA joint venture label Keep Cool, he released his first EP, “Titled I” on November 9th, 2018 and his second entitled “II” on February 6, 2019.

Painted is a body of art with its own unique R&B vibe. It was produced by Dernst Emile II, also known as “D’Mille.” His first song on the album and lead single “Roll Some Mo” was the first song Lucky Daye and D’Mille wrote collectively and it has recently gained acclamation with over 13 million plays on Spotify. Throughout the album, we hear a combination of funky bass lines, smooth piano, and strings accompanying Lucky Daye’s soothing vocals. While I love every song on this album (literally, no skips), the songs that stick out to me are Extra, Ready for Love (Interlude), Karma, Paint It, and Floods.

As Lucky stated in his recent youtube upload titled “Daye Ones Q&A,” Painted is a “wall of emotions,” each song giving off its own element for a greater whole. Billboard has compared his sound to that of Frank Ocean and Anderson .Paak here and as a recent fan of Lucky Daye, I can already predict that he will reach the same level of success of said artists. This album has set high expectations for what is to come from Lucky Daye as a new artist in a competitive industry.
